Based in Angers, lighting manufacturer Brossier Saderne creates pieces that stand midway between artisanal craftsmanship and industrial production. Founded in 1987, the brand has won over architects and interior architects alike with its bespoke creations as well as its own collections.
Aesthetic, functional, and responsible. A trio of qualities rarely found in a single piece. Yet it is precisely on this triptych that Brossier Saderne bases the conception of its luminous creations. While some pieces are drawn from the archives, others were developed through collaborations with designers and architects, always in close dialogue with the in-house design office, in order to meet every technical requirement in line with the commitments of the Angers-based company. Within its catalogue, admirers of sculptural objects will be charmed by Cube, available both as a wall light and a table lamp. It consists of an opaline glass cube—sometimes featuring small bubbles due to its hand-blown fabrication—encased within a folded sheet of metal finished in black thermolacquer.
Another sculptural piece, Felino, features a satin opaline glass sphere resting on a cylinder of black marble and brass. Among the collaborations, a particular highlight is the project developed with the Paris-based architecture studio Atelier Saint-Lazare around the Lampe d’Atelier. As its name suggests, the design takes inspiration from the lighting systems traditionally found in workshops and other spaces dedicated to design and production.
Here again, metal plays a central role, more specifically raw or thermolacquered aluminium, available in several customizable colours such as olive grey green, pale green, or deep black. The result is a suspension light with a chic, industrial character, equally suited to office environments or above a dining table. As for Delson 345, the lamp features a fluted glass tube topped with two brushed brass cups, all the previous supported by a slightly inclined structure. This taste for movement and inclination can also be found in Iris, another table lamp. The luminaire is conceived as a playful object that does not take itself too seriously, thanks to its magnetized micro-perforated reflector, which can rotate freely around its base. Depending on its position, it can either reveal or conceal the light. Another table lamps is Clam, recognizable by its white marble base and thermolacquered steel reflector. The latter can be positioned at the desired height by sliding it along a chrome rod. This system is also available as a floor lamp, standing 125 centimetres high.
Finally, Alva, named after Thomas Alva Edison—the inventor of the incandescent light bulb—embodies lightness and finesse. Made of glass and brushed aluminium, it seems to float in the air, suspended by steel cables. As such, beyond addressing the challenges of its time, Brossier Saderne offers a wide range of lights capable of responding to both the aesthetic and practical requirements of contemporary interiors. •
