When materials and curves meet, fashion is transported to a universe where the rules and conventions are reset. This is the project of the GN0 brand and its first boutique.
Just a stone’s throw from Barcelona’s bustling streets and fashion boutiques, GN0 is a UFO that attracts the curious. And with good reason: its name, Galaxy Number 0 (GN0), already speaks of a journey outside this Earth. Tired of the restrictive conventions of the fashion world, the founders María Roch and Eugenia Puig de Travy have created a label that deconstructs the rules and prompts a fresh start. While an intergalactic journey is not yet possible, they manage to defy the laws of weightlessness to make us travel to Mars while staying on the blue planet.
They owe this intergalactic portal to Cristina Cirera and her studio, that successfully create a parallel world in which fashion becomes a unique sensory experience. Inspired by the planet Mars, the interior designer has focused on the material and the structure of the space. ’We used lime mortar, shaped by hand to recreate the irregular textures reminiscent of the arid and rocky landscapes of the red planet’, explains Cristina Cirera. Covered with clay-coloured putty, the entire space envelops us in an almost enigmatic atmosphere, reinforced by the occasional contrasting lighting that only allows us to see the textile pieces and the textured surface of the walls.
While the customer experience is at the centre of the project, the display of the clothes is equally important. In this scenography, where the customer’s gaze is guided by the curves of the space, the clothes are revealed in turn and in an unconventional way. ’The tubular stainless steel structure gracefully supports the clothes’, says the Spanish architect. The staging thus defies gravity with this suspended device on which the clothes seem to float. Everything is about contrast in this space, where the softness of the pieces meets the hardness of the earthy textures, where the organic curves confront industrial materials. The usual points of reference are disturbed to create a full immersion.
Fashion is no longer just an aesthetic choice, it is a full-blown sensory exploration. Everything in this place has been designed to awaken the senses. To enter GN0 is to touch the walls to feel their roughness, to wander among the sculpted volumes, to let oneself be guided by the light and the materials. The space is experienced to the full, almost taking on the feel of a performance where each visit becomes an exploration. Between design, texture and light, the shop designed by Cristina Cirera redefines the way we perceive and experience fashion, transporting us far beyond earthly boundaries. •
